What I Learned from the DRRM Seminar?
Philippines is obviously a vulnerable country, we have a lot of vulnerable areas and we are hit by most calamities. Typhoons are of course on top of the list, followed by these earthquakes, fires, etc. But the question is how prepared are we for when it happens?
In our DRRM Seminar, I've learned that there are a lot of things to consider when you are preparing for a calamity. I didn't know that we had to consider vulnerable areas and other weaknesses of our places or hometowns. I felt that I was able to learn more about our country in terms of typhoons and such; I was able to gain knowledge from this seminar. I was also touched with the video showed to us, how we, Filipinos can still smile although we are facing difficult times, and how we still help each other although we ourselves are in need of help. This shows how Filipinos are really "makatao" and helpful to others.
I also learned what to do when certain situations happen like, when a person loses consciousness.
Here is a step-by-step instruction on what you need to do:
1.) Assess the situation (Using your senses)
-Is it safe?
2.) Instruct helpers
3.) Call for media assistance
4.) Check his/her responsiveness
-Is he conscious? (Look, Listen, Feel)
CAB-Compression, Airway, Breathing
We need to be prepared in case typhoons happen, and so we need to be aware of our vulnerable areas, and how we can prepare for calamities that occur in our areas. It is important that we attend seminars like this Disaster Risk Reduction and Management so that other people can share their knowledge with us.
Overall, I found the DRRM Seminar very helpful especially to us, students; we would be able to know what to do when a situation arises. Like what we did in the "Bahay-Tao-Bagyo" Game, wherein you see how in real life, people can really lose their homes in just a simple "Bagyo".
